The year long hiatus is over, and Twenty One Pilots’ Skeleton Clique has been given two new songs, an album announcement and a tour to reward their wait.
Over the past week, twenty one pilots has posted a few cryptic social media videos featuring a slowly opening eye (a reference to the closing eye and tour video series Sleepers that symbolized the end of their Blurryface era last year). These have been the first posts from the chart-topping alternative band in a full year. Today, the cryptic messaging paid off with the songs “Jumpsuit” and “Nico And The Niners.” Both songs are the first releases from upcoming album Trench, due out October 5.
The duo (comprised of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun) also announced a massive tour, which is scheduled to visit arenas around the world from October through March. Fans can reserve a spot as a verified fan to get the first word on the tickets by visiting twentyonepilots.com.
Twenty One Pilots also released a video for “Jumpsuit” today, introducing the entire visual aesthetic for this era of their band. The video begins with a burned out shell of a car, referencing the car in the “Heavydirtysoul” music video. The new video begins with Tyler Joseph saying “we were here the whole time. You were asleep.” The narrative that follows is marked by a stark yellow and black color scheme and enough imagery to keep the Clique theorizing for months to come.
In typical fashion, the band members themselves were much more lighthearted about the return on their own social media. Josh Dun joked on his Twitter, “Sorry about all that. Tyler and I were tying to decide which one of us is still in the band and who is out etc. I think we got it sorted now.”
