When it comes to pioneers of Christian rock, there are few bands that have withstood the test of time the way that Stryper has been able to. They continue to release their best music four decades into their already illustrious career.
The band has been teasing new music coming in 2020, and now midway through the year we will finally get a taste of what is coming from Stryper.
“On June 26, we will release the first single from the new album,” vocalist and founding member Michael Sweet said in a post. “It’s metal, it’s powerful, it’s relevant, it’s life-changing. It is most definitely one of the best tracks we’ve ever recorded, and it couldn’t come at a better time.”
The legacy surrounding Stryper is that of creating faith-based metal while operating on the fringe of faith-based rock. They have never shied away from both being bold in faith and simultaneously raising eyebrows for edgy lyrics and song titles. Their 2018 release was titled God Damn Evil, an album title which created quite a stir among the industry while continuing to cement their legacy as a staple in faith-based metal.
Sweet had this to say about the album being banned from shelves in some stores: “Stryper has always been about making people think outside the box. Our new album title, God Damn Evil, is a statement that’s needed in our society. We’ve seen evil rise to new levels, and this title is simply a prayer request asking God to damn or condemn all the evil around us.”
