DAV is not backing down from their desire to spread a message of hope and unity during a time when there is so much hatred, anger, and fear. Although “The Divided” was inspired by the way the COVID crisis has caused many people to pick and defend their side, frontman Dave Hanson shares that, at the root of it all, there is a deeper issue: we are all broken and in need of a savior.
“We wanted to write a song that challenges us to examine our heart, especially us Christians, on how we profess to love God, and loving our neighbor as He has loved us. COVID-19 had truly revealed the true nature of our heart, which is sinful,” Dave shares. “It has proven to be more than just this pandemic that we are in. Our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ destroying friendships over a piece of cloth, over who got and hasn’t gotten the vaccine. There have been attacks on both sides, which has not been of God.”
Dave continues, “This is totally testing how authentic we are in our faith in Jesus Christ. And we are totally failing. We must allow the Holy Spirit to convict our heart, mind, and soul, by coming as we are, repenting, turning away from our sin, accepting the forgiveness, which is salvation that only He can bring. As our song says, “Break free from the devil that’s inside of you, turn and flee, can’t you see what’s become you, the hate the divided.”
