August Burns Red kicked off their Leveler 10 Year Anniversary Tour on September 9 in Philadelphia, PA. With a lineup completed by Like Moths to Flames, ERRA, and Fit For A King, the show rocked the Franklin Music Hall to its very core. It was many people’s first show back after a nearly 2-year hiatus due to COVID-19, and you could feel the excitement in the air from the moment you stepped into the venue.

Fit For A King, a Christian metalcore band from Tyler, Texas, was undoubtedly one of the major highlights of the night.  As soon as they took the stage, the crowd went absolutely crazy, adding to the already elevated energy of the room.  Opening with the track “Stockholm” off of their 2020 album The Path, Fit For A King was truly a delight through the entirety of their set. Between the mesmerizing light show, the beautifully intense lyrics of each song, and the polished performance of each member, Fit For A King is a band that will leave you breathing heavily and wanting to buy another ticket to their next show.

The band played a total of 11 songs, including “When Everything Means Nothing,” “The Price of Agony,” and the live debut of “Prophet,” and they closed the night with “God of Fire.”

Perhaps it was due to the fact that it was the first night of their tour, but every member was energetic and extremely animated. Ryan “Tuck” O’Leary was a notable highlight. Throughout the entire set, he was jumping, spinning around, and even throwing his bass. Ryan Kirby’s vocals were strong and passionate. You could feel every emotion in his voice. Trey Celaya, who was filling in for Fit For A King’s drummer Jared Easterling, was an absolute beast on the drums. Daniel Gailey was also an incredible performer, as his guitar sound was some of the best of the night.

As an added surprise, Ryan Kirby joined Jake Luhrs during August Burns Red’s set for the song “Poor Millionaire.” The song also features Kirby on their Leveler 10 Year Anniversary album, so it was perfect that he joined them to perform it.  As expected, the crowd was ecstatic for this crossover performance.

Fit For A King is easily one of the best Christian Metalcore bands around, and their live shows never disappoint.  Their latest EP, Guardians of the Path, is out on all streaming services.
