Every year, the organization To Write Love On Her Arms carefully crafts a campaign around World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10). The nonprofit has a long history in the music scene, a legacy that continues as artists participate in this year’s theme.
This year, the WSPD campaign theme is “You Make Today Better.” According to the campaign page, the goal is to “educate people about suicide and what we can do to prevent it, to give you tools to create conversations about mental health in your community that inspire honesty and openness, and to raise life-saving funds for treatment and recovery.”
Some of the artists who have shown their support of the campaign so far by wearing the shirts and sharing their own thoughts include Jon Foreman of Switchfoot, Propaganda, Dustin Kensrue of Thrice, and Mat Kearney.
In addition to wearing the shirts (which can be purchased at twloha.com), everyone is invited to become a fundraiser to raise direct support for treatment and recovery, and to share their own responses to the question of “how do you make today better?”
This year’s annual Heavy and Light concert event will be just days after World Suicide Prevention Day. Tickets are now on sale for a lineup that includes Jon Foreman, Anthony Raneri (Bayside), and sisters Jamie Grace and Morgan Harper-Nichols (both speaking).
