In this week's edition of the Pure Rock Report, we take a look at rock songs you may have missed in 2019!
Many years over the past decade, it has been a struggle to find enough albums to round out a satisfying end-of-year list. 2019 bucked that trend in a powerful way, offering up a wide range of outstanding albums in every sub-genre of rock and metal.
Theody has released a reimagined cover of Beartooth’s song “Disease.”
This band brings it with gritty and heavy rock guitars, elements of rap and hip-hop, and passionate, edgy vocals. The album is aptly titled because the energy explosion will leave listeners with hearts racing from the adrenaline rush.
In The Almost's Fear Caller, the desert is wild and split open like a rock and roll song, with all the subtle joys and tragedies of life itself exploding through the cracks.
If you want a different sound and feel to these songs, then this acoustic EP is for you. It still contains the lyrical content of the previously released material while showcasing a new side of the three sisters' abilities vocally and musically.
San Antonio based band Waxpanel has turned the nostalgia all the way up with their fantastically diverse debut album For Those Left Standing.
Cypress & Co have released a new single titled, "Underworld." "Underworld" has a melodic, ethereal sound with a catchy beat that has you humming along almost instantaneously.
With their absolutely masterful pairing of vocal tones and the ability to bring in symphonic and electronic elements without ever compromising the gritty heaviness, Bayless's Ready. Aim. is easily the strongest release this year from an independent rock band. Beyond simply having all of the right elements in play, Jared and Vanessa (aided by an exceptional production team) execute those elements with polish and professionalism that could see them easily standing alongside the biggest rock releases this year. If you take a shot on only one band you haven't heard of this year, Bayless should be a top contender.
After laying low for much of 2019, Glasslands has come back strong with a new single titled "Mr Creeps."
